Practices CSOs in Uganda adopted to ensure a safe digital/online environment

CSOs and human rights defenders have advocated for laws that safeguard the online security and safety of Uganda. An example is the Computer Misuse Act.

Indigenous CSOs are building their digital capacities by attending digital security capacity-building workshops that focus on equipping human rights defenders with skills and strategies in advancing digital rights protection.

The workshops expose participants to digital safety tools and practices; legal and regulatory frameworks and knowledge on how to apply them in their day-to-day activities for a safer working online environment.

Additionally, CSOs undergo rigorous digital and physical security audits to identify vulnerabilities that could expose them to potential harm. They then reach out to Non-Governmental Organizations(NGOs) like DefendDefenders who offer fix-up support like antivirus software, malware analysis, and device encryption.

Ways in which CSOs  have benefitted from the support DefendDefenders has rendered during the GIF Project

Through its Helpdesk, DefendDefenders has responded to CSOs’ requests for digital security support like antivirus license activation, disk encryption, enabling two-factor authentication, provision of reliable computing devices, and many others.

Secondly, DefendDefenders has provided reliable website hosting services, secure email solutions for CSOs to enable safe communication exchanges.
